Planting Fruit Trees in Africa

We are delighted to update you on our contribution to the Planting Fruit Trees in Africa! For every basket of fruit we have delivered a Fruit Tree is planted.  In three months 13 Trees have been planted in Malawi.

What is the campaign about?

Location: Malawi, Africa

Type of trees: Fruitful Office focus mainly on guava and papaya fruit trees, as well as some quick growing trees like senna siamea to provide firewood.

Working with: Fruitful Office are working with their friends at RIPPLE Africa (Charity No. 1103256), a UK Charity working in Malawi.

Who and how many: The trees are grown by schools, households and farms. Larger farm cooperatives plant 20-30,000 seedlings in nursery each year.

How: Seeds and tubes are provided and, in some cases, some equipment. Training is given, and there is constant monitoring during the year to ensure that as many tree seedlings as possible are ready for planting out in the rainy season. The tree seedlings are then planted out in orchards, woodlots and around household perimeters, and advice is given to provide the best ongoing care for the trees

Who benefits: Malawian families benefit from the trees to provide both fruit and firewood for the future for their own consumption and also, in some cases, income generation.

Every three months Fruitful Office updates AMCM Group along with their other clients on the campaign and how many fruit trees they have planted.

Claritas Group – Best Practice Excellence!

AMCM Group is delighted to have been recognised for Best Practice during our first visit by the Considerate Constructors Scheme at our current project in Barnfield Way, Hurst Green for Tandridge District Council.

The scheme – which involves the construction of three bungalows in a very restricted site in Hurst Green, Surrey – is located in a highly residential area and is part of the Council’s plans to provide additional council housing throughout the district.

The CCS Assessor noted: “The site is exceptionally neat and tidy, and a submission should be made to the Best Practice Hub for reference…”

Councillor Liz Parker, Chair of the Council’s Housing Committee, said: “It’s vital we create affordable homes, so people of all ages have somewhere to live in our district. We choose contractors who will build homes to the highest standards and will maintain strict codes of conduct during the construction phase. I am pleased that the AMCM Group has been recognised as a Considerate Constructor as this benefits our residents who live close by, our environment, and the health and safety of their team.”

The £0.7 million scheme is due to complete in November 2019 and, with a score of 37 during its first visit, is well on track to achieve Performance Beyond Compliance. Well done Jason Clarke, Ops Director, Andrew Hutchings, Site Manager, and Becki Sinclair, our CCS Champion, for such a great start!

Jon Wardle speaks at next Buildoffsite Residential Hub Event

The next Buildoffsite Residential Hub being held on 4th July at University of Birmingham will explore the disparate process required to successfully enable an offsite project, and highlight whether the industry is aligned when it comes to a clear process for Offsite projects.

Jon will be discussing what we need to consider during the pre-construction phase and how it differs from the traditional construction process.

Jon will be speaking alongside several other members of the Residential Hub Board including Michelle Hannah from Cast Consultancy who will be exploring the MMC Definitions Framework and no doubt providing some very useful technical ‘know how’.  The event will close with panel discussions and a workshop to capture information shared throughout the day.

Simon Wilkinson appointed to lead on business growth at Claritas Group

AMCM Group, one of the UK’s most forward-thinking construction specialists, has appointed Simon Wilkinson as Director to lead on strategic growth.

Simon’s appointment demonstrates an investment into a business which has already achieved significant success in residential markets, forging close relationships with local authorities and residential developers in the past six years. With Simon now on board, the goal is to extend this growth further to commercial, mixed-use developments and the education sector.

Simon has 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, originally qualifying as a Quantity Surveyor before transitioning to strategic business development roles. Having gained valuable experience working for one of the UK’s leading engineering consultancies, Simon moved on to join Wates in 2005, spearheading the company’s strategy to work with some of London’s leading commercial clients.

Simon’s role at Wates further expanded into the burgeoning London private residential sector, which saw project revenue grow from £0 to £150+million in under five years.

Now at AMCM Group, Simon will be responsible for identifying new opportunities for clients at the very beginning of their project lifecycle. In addition, he will also undertake the new role within the company of ‘Promise Guardian’, ensuring that all deliverables outlined at the beginning of a project are met and achieved in line with those set out and agreed with the client.

Jon Wardle, AMCM Group CEO said: “We are in an environment where being transparent is essential; we win work based on our values and commitment to customer service, as well as the quality of project delivery. It’s important for us to communicate this level of transparency. There is currently much talk about the existing ‘broken model’ and the challenge to find new ways of working. The level of respect that Simon has gained from the industry makes him the ideal ambassador for AMCM Group.”

Ready to take on this challenge, Simon added: “I have not only joined an outstanding forward thinking business, but it is exhilarating to be working with old colleagues who share the same passion as myself, and it excites me to be able to work with clients expressing the way AMCM Group operates. In doing so, we can very clearly make a difference on project delivery and play our part in moving the industry on in a positive way.

“My primary goal is to create meaningful, long-term client relationships aligned to our business culture of delivering on promises.”

AMCM is proud to support Mental Health Awareness Week

AMCM Group takes the health and wellbeing of all of our employees very seriously.

We are pleased to support Mental Health Awareness Week across the business. Each site has been issued with the ‘time to change’ poster and our Site Managers are holding tool box talks to provide information and advice of the company’s open door policy for all operatives to discuss any issues or seek help from their Site Manager.

The head office canteen in Beckenham has been adorned with useful information leaflets, posters and ways to seek help, not only if individuals are struggling with mental health issues, but how we can identify and offer support if we suspect a colleague is affected.
