Graeme O'Docherty

We are delighted to announce our senior leadership team continues to grow with the appointment of a new Director.

Graeme O’Doherty joins AMCM Group as the Technical and Partnerships Director for our wholly owned subsidiary, Magna Offsite Solutions. Graeme has an MBA from Warwick University and is currently undertaking an MSc in Building Information Modelling and Management.

He is the strategic contact for clients, suppliers and consultants on behalf of AMCM Group/Magna Offsite Solutions.

His roles have included collaboration on new product development for social and affordable housing and build-to-rent schemes, working closely with developers, contractors, manufacturers and consultants.

Key responsibilities for Graeme will include:

  • Technical advice on buildability
  • Early stage feasibility studies
  • Optioneering to choose the most appropriate offsite solution for each project
  • Develop partnerships with clients, suppliers and consultants
  • Provide strategic direction on all projects where offsite solutions are appropriate
  • Develop BIM capabilities, working towards BIM Level 2 accreditation for AMCM Group

Graeme states: “It is well known that the construction industry faces a skills crisis and I’m delighted to take on the challenge of leading AMCM Group into the exciting digital world of offsite construction. Developing partnerships with manufacturers to enable a system agnostic appraisal is something I’m particularly pleased to offer our clients.”

AMCM Group – Best Practice Excellence!

AMCM Group is delighted to have been recognised for Best Practice during our first visit by the Considerate Constructors Scheme at our current project in Barnfield Way, Hurst Green for Tandridge District Council.

The scheme – which involves the construction of three bungalows in a very restricted site in Hurst Green, Surrey – is located in a highly residential area and is part of the Council’s plans to provide additional council housing throughout the district.

The CCS Assessor noted: “The site is exceptionally neat and tidy, and a submission should be made to the Best Practice Hub for reference…”

Councillor Liz Parker, Chair of the Council’s Housing Committee, said: “It’s vital we create affordable homes, so people of all ages have somewhere to live in our district. We choose contractors who will build homes to the highest standards and will maintain strict codes of conduct during the construction phase. I am pleased that the AMCM Group has been recognised as a Considerate Constructor as this benefits our residents who live close by, our environment, and the health and safety of their team.”

The £0.7 million scheme is due to complete in November 2019 and, with a score of 37 during its first visit, is well on track to achieve Performance Beyond Compliance. Well done Jason Clarke, Ops Director, Andrew Hutchings, Site Manager, and Becki Sinclair, our CCS Champion, for such a great start!

The new ‘free school’ is being constructed right at the heart of what is already a thriving community and is to be operated by The Britannia Education Trust who currently run nearby Britannia Village Primary School. The new school will include a nursery school offering part time places to 60 children aged three to four years and is set to achieve ESFA Standards.

Enabling works started in April 2019 and is due to complete ready for occupation by the pupils for the start of the September 2020 academic year. Jon Wardle speaks at next Buildoffsite Residential Hub Event

The next Buildoffsite Residential Hub being held on 4th July at University of Birmingham will explore the disparate process required to successfully enable an offsite project, and highlight whether the industry is aligned when it comes to a clear process for Offsite projects.

Jon will be discussing what we need to consider during the pre-construction phase and how it differs from the traditional construction process.

Jon will be speaking alongside several other members of the Residential Hub Board including Michelle Hannah from Cast Consultancy who will be exploring the MMC Definitions Framework and no doubt providing some very useful technical ‘know how’.  The event will close with panel discussions and a workshop to capture information shared throughout the day.

Simon Wilkinson appointed to lead on business growth at AMCM Group

AMCM Group, one of the UK’s most forward-thinking construction specialists, has appointed Simon Wilkinson as Director to lead on strategic growth.

Simon’s appointment demonstrates an investment into a business which has already achieved significant success in residential markets, forging close relationships with local authorities and residential developers in the past six years. With Simon now on board, the goal is to extend this growth further to commercial, mixed-use developments and the education sector.

Simon has 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, originally qualifying as a Quantity Surveyor before transitioning to strategic business development roles. Having gained valuable experience working for one of the UK’s leading engineering consultancies, Simon moved on to join Wates in 2005, spearheading the company’s strategy to work with some of London’s leading commercial clients.

Simon’s role at Wates further expanded into the burgeoning London private residential sector, which saw project revenue grow from £0 to £150+million in under five years.

Now at AMCM Group, Simon will be responsible for identifying new opportunities for clients at the very beginning of their project lifecycle. In addition, he will also undertake the new role within the company of ‘Promise Guardian’, ensuring that all deliverables outlined at the beginning of a project are met and achieved in line with those set out and agreed with the client.

Jon Wardle, AMCM Group CEO said: “We are in an environment where being transparent is essential; we win work based on our values and commitment to customer service, as well as the quality of project delivery. It’s important for us to communicate this level of transparency. There is currently much talk about the existing ‘broken model’ and the challenge to find new ways of working. The level of respect that Simon has gained from the industry makes him the ideal ambassador for AMCM Group.”

Ready to take on this challenge, Simon added: “I have not only joined an outstanding forward thinking business, but it is exhilarating to be working with old colleagues who share the same passion as myself, and it excites me to be able to work with clients expressing the way AMCM Group operates. In doing so, we can very clearly make a difference on project delivery and play our part in moving the industry on in a positive way.

“My primary goal is to create meaningful, long-term client relationships aligned to our business culture of delivering on promises.”

AMCM is proud to support Mental Health Awareness Week

AMCM Group takes the health and wellbeing of all of our employees very seriously.

We are pleased to support Mental Health Awareness Week across the business. Each site has been issued with the ‘time to change’ poster and our Site Managers are holding tool box talks to provide information and advice of the company’s open door policy for all operatives to discuss any issues or seek help from their Site Manager.

The head office canteen in Beckenham has been adorned with useful information leaflets, posters and ways to seek help, not only if individuals are struggling with mental health issues, but how we can identify and offer support if we suspect a colleague is affected.

Social Values at St Agnes, Oval

As part of our Social Value offering, the site team at St Agnes, Oval have been delighted to support the Kennington Youth Project which is adjacent to the site.

Since starting work on the project in August 2018, the AMCM Site Manager, appointed Resident Liaison Officer and Considerate Constructors Champion have worked together with the KYP in several ways. This has included assisting with DIY and minor maintenance works within the youth centre and donating items such as soaps, hand towels and tea and coffee supplies. We have also donated equipment required at the center and in support of a donation made by the client, London and Quadrant, arranged an event to mark the delivery of the funds. We hope to continue our social value offerings here through to the completion of the project in April 2020 with an aim of leaving a positive legacy beyond completion.

Becki Sinclair, CCS Champion explains: “We are always keen to reach out to the communities in which we work, and we really want to try and make our presence a positive one for all!”

The CCS scheme has introduced a nationwide graffiti competition which Becki has taken and adapted for the St Agnes scheme, commenting: “I really wanted to encourage the young people surrounding the site to get involved, so we are running our own AMCM ‘mini competition’ so someone in the local area will win!”

In addition to the work we are doing with KYP, AMCM Group has also donated unused materials such as pallets and bricks to local allotments which are gratefully accepted and transformed into raised beds for planting. Quite apt, perhaps, considering St Agnes is the patron saint of gardeners!
